Togos toasted sandwiches Last week I received a coupon so I could try a toasted sandwich at Togos. So on Saturday I drove to my nearest Togos, which is at 3378 Coach Lane in Cameron Park, to try one.
Togos started in 1971 in San Jose when a young college student bought a small sandwich shop and made sandwiches the way he liked them, massive and with lots of fresh ingredients. Now you can find 240 of them on the west coast, such as two in El Dorado County, the 1 in Cameron Park and another in El Dorado Hills.
The new Togos Toasted Sandwiches were just introduced a brief time ago and you'll find four of them: the Clubhouse applewood smoked bacon, turkey, Cheddar cheese, honey Dijon, lettuce and tomatoes on San Francisco style sourdough bread; Chili Cheese N Beef roast beef, barbecue chipotle mayo, chili, Cheddar cheese, red onions and chile lime tortilla strips on classic white bread; Pepper jack Pastrami pastrami, thousand island dressing, pepper jack cheese and pepperoncinis on classic white bread and Uncle Tonys Italian salami, capicolla, cotto, ham, provolone cheese, red onions, lettuce, pickles, pepperoncinis, tomatoes, and Italian vinaigrette on Parmesan bread.
I love pastrami so I decided to give that sandwich a try. It was good, the pepper-jack cheese adding a bit of heat to it. But if you like pastrami, it was recommended to me to instead order their Classic Pastrami sandwich and ask them to toast it, something they'll do with any of the sandwiches. Unlike the one I had, it comes with vegetables. Or, as an alternative, order just a half of a sandwich and a half salad. Either of those make for a far better balanced meal.
Togos makes each sandwich fresh to order and offers a significant number of hot and cold choices (including a number of veggie choices), salads, soups, wraps and desserts. And the two in our county also have a Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors in conjunction with them, which increases your options.
There are 3 distinctive sizes of sandwiches available: half, normal (six inch), large (nine inch) and family (24 inch). You pick your sandwich by number (lots of meat, vegetable and cheese choices), select the bread (white, sourdough, onion herb, honey entire wheat or Parmesan) and tell them the size. They come with mayo or mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, pepperoncinis and salt and pepper. Each day they also have a unique sandwich combination at a unique price, which is a truly great deal.
Togos also has a big catering menu available, so think about that this holiday season when you are panicking about what to fix for that party.
The Cameron Park Togos is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., Sunday by way of Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 530-672-9295. The El Dorado Hills Togos is located at 4311 Town Center Blvd. and might be reached at 916-939-6760.
